Why I Believe in Intelligent Skin

As Beauty Network celebrates 40 years, I’ve been reflecting on my many years as an esthetician—and on all that my clients and their skin have taught me.

This milestone has made me think about the discoveries and lessons I’ve gathered along the way, and I’ve decided it is time to begin sharing more of what I’ve learned about how we can truly care for and respect our skin.

One question I’ve been asked many times is:

“Why did you start your skincare business?”

My answer takes me back to my first esthetics teacher, who taught me that a good skincare product should be good enough for your best friend.

It was a beautiful lesson, but over the years I learned something deeper:

What works beautifully for one person may not be right for another.

Skin is individual. It responds to our environment, lifestyle, hormones, stress, age, and the products and treatments we choose.

And today, science is giving us a deeper understanding of what I have observed and practiced throughout my career:

Skin is a living, intelligent organ.

The more we understand its needs, the more thoughtfully we can care for it.

This is the philosophy behind Intelligent Skincare for Intelligent Skin™—and the reason I’m beginning The Intelligent Skin Note.

I look forward to sharing what I’ve learned, what I’m continuing to discover, and what new science is teaching us about caring for our skin with curiosity, respect, and intention.
